Sighing on the wings of the air
A plaintive flute makes melodie!
‘Mid limpid shadow deeply breathes
Thy poem rare of silent calm,

Night, slumb'rous night 
Night of enchantment, who threadest with undulant grace
Thro’ the fragrant flood of thy tresses,
The moon’s chrysolite and pearl.

Sylvia, Sylvanira, and sweet Sybyl,
Beauties with your gazing blue asmile!
The stars swim in purling fountains
Haste ye down the silver ways,

Hasten, all! Time flows amain!
‘Mid gardens where love payeth vows
Come gather the hearts faint with longing,
To die ‘mid your hear of gold!

L’âme d’une flûte soupire
Au fond du parc mélodieux ;
Limpide est l’ombre où l’on respire
Ton poème silencieux,

Nuit de langueur, nuit de mensonge,
Qui poses d’un geste ondoyant
Dans ta chevelure de songe
La lune, bijou d’Orient.

Sylva, Sylvie et Sylvanire,
Belles au regard bleu changeant,
L’étoile aux fontaines se mire,
Allez par les sentiers d’argent,

Allez vite — l’heure est si brève !
Cueillir au jardin des aveux
Les cœurs qui se meurent du rêve
De mourir parmi vos cheveux…
